Company

NoviOcean AB

A Swedish ocean-energy company building one floating offshore platform that harvests wave, wind and sun together. NoviOcean designs the wave system and integrates the whole platform; the specialist generation technologies and the steel structure come from industries that already build them.

What we are

A systems integrator, not a single-technology developer.

NoviOcean AB combines a proprietary wave-energy system with mature specialist generation technologies and established marine construction methods. The engineering effort goes into making those elements work together offshore — on one floating structure, with one mooring, one cable and one lease area.

The company is registered in Täby, Stockholm, Sweden, and has been developing hybrid offshore energy since 2016. Its current product, pilot and commercialisation pathway is the Medi Wave 850H.

NoviOcean is now both the company name and the name of the brand and the product family. The legal entity is NoviOcean AB, and the platforms carry the same name.

  • What we own The wave-energy system. A large float rises with each wave and pressurises water through valves to drive a Pelton turbine — components and principles industry has used for more than a century. The innovation is where the pressure comes from.
  • What we buy Vertical-axis wind turbines and thin-film CIGS solar, from the specialist manufacturers who already build them. Our technology partners
  • What we build with partners The floating structure, using conventional welded-steel shipyard engineering and established marine construction methods, built at yards rather than in-house.

Marine integration and final configuration still require engineering and validation.

The goal

Our goal is to make the annual profit of using NoviOceans so high, that it by itself will be the catalyst for deployments in the thousands.

The programme

One product, one demonstrator, one pilot ahead.

The work is deliberately sequenced. There is one current product, one demonstrator in the water in 2026, and one full-scale pilot as the next major phase. Nothing full-scale is operating offshore yet, and this page does not pretend otherwise.

Current product

Medi Wave 850H

850 kW rated — 300 kW wave · 350 kW wind · 200 kW solar management estimate

Wave, wind and solar on one floating structure, with optional containerised desalination or battery storage, scalable from a single unit to offshore arrays.

In the water · 2026

NO3 — the triple-hybrid demonstrator

NO3 is the current demonstrator, and the first to carry wave, wind and solar together. It validates the hydrodynamic behaviour of the platform, its structural response, its mooring performance, and the correlation between offshore measurements and the simulation model.

It does not validate the full power train, the Pelton system, the wind system, the solar system or commercial energy production.

What NO3 validates

Next major phase · 2027–2028

The full-scale Medi Wave pilot

The first customer pilot, run with a utility partner, takes the platform to TRL 7–8 through integrated offshore performance validation. projected

It is the next major phase of the programme — not a unit already operating offshore.
